THE IDEAL SKIN CARE ROUTINE: WHAT TO APPLY AND WHEN

Does it really matter if you apply your toner after your moisturizer? Ideal Skin Care Routine: If you use several products, you may wonder which is the correct order of application (facial mist, serum, sunscreen, etc.)

Your medicine cabinet or vanity is likely full of different beauty products you use daily. From sunscreen to cleansers to toners, it can get pretty confusing. Which one should you apply first, and what’s the reasoning behind the order? Read on to find out more!

Cleanse

Start with a clean slate by washing your face of everything that’s built up, such as oils and any environmental pollutants. Pat dry with a soft towel; no hard scrubbing needed! Once this is all done, you’re ready to apply products.

Facial Essence

Facial essence is amazing for boosting your skin’s nutrient content. They contain antioxidants like vitamin C, which help repair damage to your skin incurred by free radicals. These free radicals can make your skin age faster. But antioxidants come to the rescue by essentially neutralizing these free radicals. Apply to skin and let it dry before your next step.

Spot treatment/special concerns

If you are using a special acne treatment, anti-aging treatment, or something to combat fine lines or wrinkles, you can also layer that on at this point.

Eye cream is an excellent spot treatment to consider. The eyes have unique requirements and concerns that are often very different from those of the rest of the face. Many experience dark circles and bags in the undereye area. This is because the skin under your eyes is thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. What’s more, this delicate skin makes it more prone to signs of aging. Fine lines under and around the eyes are often the first sign of aging people experience on their faces.

Facial mist

Next, it’s essential to moisturize! Facial mist is a great option for moisturizing and keeping skin healthy. Dry skin is problematic for several reasons. Dry skin highlights any signs of aging you have. As we age, we lose natural moisture in the skin. So that needs to be replenished. Even if your skin is not showing any signs of aging, moisturized skin is healthy-looking skin! Another important reason to moisturize is to ensure your makeup goes on smoothly. Makeup on dry skin just highlights that dry skin.

Serums

If you are using a serum, now’s the time to place it. Serums are rich concentrations of nutrients and active ingredients to help your face. Those containing antioxidants are a great choice since, during the daytime, antioxidants can help protect the skin against the harmful effects of UV rays, environmental pollution, and other sources of free radicals, which can damage the skin and lead to premature aging. And at nighttime, your skin has a chance to recover from all those things it encountered during the day. Antioxidants help combat that.

Sunscreen (during the day)

Sunscreen is obviously a must during your daytime skin care routine after applying all your previous products (and before applying makeup). Aim for an SPF of at least 30, but up that amount if you’re planning to spend a good portion of the day outdoors.

And that’s that! After all of these steps, you can then start your makeup routine, if you so choose, or enjoy your healthy, fresh face as is! Take care of your skin now to enjoy a youthful-looking complexion for years to come by applying Ideal Skin Care Routine.
