5 SECRETS TO UPSCALE YOUR WINTER SKINCARE ROUTINE

“Winter is here”, and as we begin to wear our favorite heavy winter coats, drink delicious hot chocolate and enjoy cozy nights, we also need to adjust our skincare routine. The transition between summer days to winter months can have an effect on your skin. As the cold weather arrives, humidity levels usually drop drastically, causing our normally healthy skin to feel dehydrated.

It is not uncommon during colder days to experience dry, cracked skin. Here are 5 tips that can help you keep your skin looking flawless and healthy during winter.

Switch to a mild exfoliator

Between the cold air outside combined with dry heat from central heating, your skin cells dehydrate and die out faster in winter. Although exfoliating does help to get rid of dead cells, you need to be more gentle than usual. Since your skin barrier is already compromised due to the dry and cold weather, try exfoliating once a week and using a mild exfoliator.

Use products high in vitamin C

Using products with high vitamin C can help the skin feel hydrated and moisturized, thus avoiding flaking and itching.

Avoid hot showers, use lukewarm water instead

It can be very tempting during the winter months to shake off the cold with a hot shower. However, hot water can exacerbate dry, cracked skin it can even cause winter eczema. Additionally,  hot water tends to evaporate faster, thus stripping your skin of its essential moisture and damaging its natural protective barrier.

Pay extra attention to your eye area

The eye area is usually the first to show the earliest signs of premature aging. This happens because the skin around your eyes is thinner and has little-to-no oil glands to protect itself. Use serums around the eyes that soothe and protect the skin.

Incorporate hyaluronic acid into your routine

Using Hyaluronic acid products is a safe way to keep the skin hydrated without having to apply heavy face creams. It helps moisturize your skin since Hyaluronic acid molecules can hold up to 1,000 times their own weight in water, allowing the moisture to lock into the skin.
